06/05~06/11 Week Review: Rising but plateauing?

Fatigue starting to give me some headaches. Academically, I am suffering as soring comes up once in a while and my brain cannot take too much information. Inshi slowly approaching and I still feel not ready. It's good though that I am still able to keep this up. Consistency was my main goal so I gotta keep pushing, but I shall not let the academic side cramble.

On the schedule, I am evaluating TriScore(since I also involve running and hiking because it's fun and helps aerobically). This is a feature on Golden Cheetah for activities in general involving TSS, GOVSS (TSS for running), and TSSswim (for if I ever dare to try swimming) as training load stress parameters. Thanks to that feature, I found it useful to check up how my PMC is doing since week 1, and I have seen a gentle raising since the start.

Remark: Blue is fitness (not triscore)

However, my schedule is too monotonous(in contrast to periodization), so I noticed lately that ramprate (aka "week to week difference in fitness due to respond in training") is starting to plummet, and I suspect this is because of 2 reasons. The first one is because as same training load is carried week to week the body adapts, so it is more dificult to bring more fitness under the same load. Thus, there is a plateau in the mathematical model as on the physical body. The second one reason could be that I may not have been training hard enough. I try to go by L2 pace most of the time following rule of "limit of comfortable nose breathing" and "still able to speak a few sentences". However, as one adapts the load has to increase prograssively. I try to tackle this using the method of Nils Van der Poel on "How to Skate 10k" by keeping hours constant. That way I don't care about TSS during my rides as long as I am able to keep the hours (moving) constant. I shall be able to notice if I'm going faster if I see I can cover more distance, in which case I shall change to a longer route.

On remarks on this week's rides:

-> 06/07 I was feeling fresh after 2 days rest. However, I pushed the limits by pushing it with Giordano, and went back to square one on recovery. It was fun pushing the limits though.
-> 06/08 First time I felt I could rise myself a bit. Still unable to do pull ups.

-> 06/09 Feeling tired first hour. Second hour feeling great.

-> 06/10 Tired after running the night before. Suffered it on Kyomi, but then I barely survived the rest on L2 pace with only a piece of bread. I know I can survive those 3 hours without much supplementation but I am forgetting I have to push for the first part as pace is fast when going with clubmates. Still, it's fun to ride together, even though its only for the first half. Grateful to Shinohara for taking care of the freshman this spring.

Finally, on a side note, I've been reading this book Burn by Herman Pontzer. It is about how our body and our metabolism manages and uses calories from everyday sedentary life to the limits of endurance. It has a very nice explanation on how ATP (the energy unit) is assembled, and also establishes some intriguing ideas about the limits of endurance, and how our metabolism has a constraint when it comes to energy expenditure. I may like to give it a review next time. I am in last chapter already, and maybe some of that information may be helpful when thinking about balancing life and training.

That's it for this week. お疲れ様でした。
